NSW Business Chamber CEO, Stephen Cartwright, has urged Australian businesses keen on breaking into China to quickly book their place at the inaugural China International Imported Products Expo (CIE) in Kunshan in late March.
"This is the first specialised import exhibition and China's largest international import expo, designed to effectively assist foreign brands enter the rapidly growing Chinese market," Mr Cartwright said. "What makes this particular expo unique is that while 100,000 Chinese businesses have been invited by the Government to attend, no Chinese companies are permitted to exhibit, meaning it is a captive market for those international businesses on display. "It's the first expo of its kind in China and no doubt will be an incredible success. I'd hate for businesses in Australia to miss out on this opportunity that they have long been waiting for." The NSW Business Chamber will be leading a delegation of Australian businesses to China, as well as having its own presence at the Expo in March. "We've heard from organisers that positions at the Expo are at a premium as more than 1000 companies from more than 50 countries have already booked their place," Mr Cartwright said. "If your company doesn't attend, it's likely that your international competitors will, securing vital importation deals throughout China at a time when Australia needs to leverage its position in the Asian economy. "This will be a trade opportunity unlike any other. Already some iconic Australian companies such as Akubra Hats have booked their place, and I encourage other businesses to seize this opportunity. "The Chinese Government has also pledged to facilitate meetings between like-minded international businesses and their Chinese counterparts." Supporting this exhibition in Kunshan will be the First Asia Pacific Chambers Congress where Mr Cartwright has been invited to speak in a roundtable forum discussing "The Impact of China's Import Expansion on Economies in the Asia Pacific Region".
