Appointment of New CO2CRC Chief Executive Officer PDF Print

The Board of the Cooperative Research Centre for Greenhouse Gas Technologies (CO2CRC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Richard Aldous as the Centre's new Chief Executive Officer.

sustain-smallRichard will succeed Dr Peter Cook, who announced in March that he intended to step down from the position of CEO. Richard will take up his appointment with CO2CRC on 26th August.

Richard has a distinguished record with both industry and government, which has included a leading role in developing carbon capture and storage (CCS), particularly in Victoria. His detailed knowledge of the petroleum and coal industries, and of the potential for CCS to lower greenhouse emissions, will be a great asset to CO2CRC.

Richard's most recent position has been with the Victorian Government's Department of Primary Industries as Deputy Secretary Energy and Earth Resources with responsibility for energy, geological survey, energy technology innovation, investment attraction and the regulation of mining, oil and gas and pipeline development. He has previously held key roles in the earth resources industry in Australia, South Africa, the UK and Zimbabwe and has worked with BHPB, Newcrest, Iluka and Western Mining Corporation. Richard has a PhD in geology and his background includes geosciences, chemical engineering, business development and planning; a résumé is attached.

The Board is delighted that Richard has agreed to lead CO2CRC.

The Board paid tribute to the achievements of Peter Cook, who will step aside as CEO at Richard's commencement, but will continue in an active role with CO2CRC. Peter created a strong and internationally acclaimed CCS research centre. He has made an enormous contribution to the Centre and to CCS more generally during his 13 year tenure, leaving CO2CRC in a great position from which it can continue to be built under Richard's leadership.
