Minister for Workplace Relations, Senator Chris Evans, today announced that he would recommend to the Governor-General the appointment of Ms Susan Booth, Ms Suzanne Jones and Mr Tim Lee as Commissioners at Fair Work Australia. Senator Evans said the appointments would bring a broad range of experience to Fair Work Australia. "All candidates have significant and broad experience in workplace relations, in law, government, tribunals and advocacy, which would add to the already valuable range of skills in Fair Work Australia," Senator Evans said. "I congratulate Ms Booth, Ms Jones and Mr Lee on their nominations and look forward to them contributing to the work of Fair Work Australia, creating balance in the workplace between all aspects of employment laws, workers rights and employer rights." Ms Booth is currently a Senior Member with the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal. Before commencing that role, she was an Anti-Discrimination Commissioner in Queensland with previous experience in the Queensland public service and legal practice in the area of workplace relations. Ms Jones is currently a Barrister at Law at the Victorian Bar. She has also been a Sessional and Special Purpose Commissioner at the Victorian Commission for Gambling Regulations and a part-time Member of the Social Security Appeals Tribunal. Ms Jones was formerly a National Wage Case Advocate. Mr Lee is currently General Manager, Fair Work Australia. Prior to that appointment Mr Lee was a senior manager in the Victorian public service including in the Department of Workplace Relations and as a Ministerial Adviser. His experience also includes holding senior roles in the Australian Services Union. The position of Fair Work Commissioner was advertised nationally with an open merit selection process leading to the appointments. All appointees will take up their positions shortly. A new merit selection process for Deputy Presidents and Commissioners of Fair Work Australia will commence shortly. It will be used to fill any vacancies that may arise over the next 12 months, to ensure Fair Work Australia continues to be adequately resourced with Members who bring a broad range of skills and experience to the tribunal. |
