Her Honour the Honourable Sally Thomas AM was today sworn in by Ms Quentin Bryce AC, Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia as the 20th and first female Administrator of the Northern Territory. Her Honour was the first female Judge of the Supreme Court of the Northern Territory and served from 1992 to 2009. Her Honour was also Chair of the Legal Aid Commission from 1990 to 1996, Chair of the Northern Territory Winston Churchill Fellowship Committee from 1992 to 2004 and became the Chancellor of CDU in 2010, a position she still holds today. Chief Minister Paul Henderson welcomed Her Honour's appointment, saying she would make a great Administrator. "It is a tremendous honour to welcome Sally as our first female Administrator in the Territory," Mr Henderson said. "She's been an outstanding Judge on the Supreme Court and is well respected across the Territory." "I would also like to extend my congratulation to Sally's partner, Duncan McNeill." Mr Henderson also paid tribute to outgoing Administrator Mr Tom Pauling AO QC, who has served in the role since 2007. "Tom has done a great job, carrying out his duties as Administrator with great respect and dedication," Mr Henderson said. "I wish Tom and his wife Tessa all the best for the future, and thank them on behalf of all Territorians." |
